Course Description
New for 2023 – QQI certification achieved upon completion of Certificate in Digital Applications. This course provides an introduction to the popular Adobe Creative Suite including; Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. During the course you will learn how to create illustrations and vector art in Adobe Illustrator, import and manipulate photographs in Adobe Photoshop and create compositions and editorial layouts in Adobe InDesign.

Course Content
This 8-week course is suitable for anyone who wishes to explore a personal interest or a career in digital media, e.g. professionals who need to learn how to use the software for work, and students who need to create visuals for their projects.Under the guidance of our highly experienced lecturers, the course will take you through the fundamentals of each piece of software over eight Saturdays in workshop-style classes. You will build up your skills through a series of challenging creative tasks in a supportive learning environment.
Our class sizes are limited, ensuring that you receive high levels of direct feedback, engagement and interaction with our lecturers. You will also be tasked with completing a design project, in which you will create both digital files and print-ready files for output to print.
Course Content
Exploring the world of raster image-creation you will be shown how to develop your skills of composition and manipulation through a series of instructor-led tutorials. You will build up a portfolio of work that allows you determine the most appropriate software for any given task.
You will develop proficiencies in using tools such as the pen, shape and type tools to allow you to freely explore the possibilities of vector image creation. As part of the course you will work on a design project and portfolio of work and you will be able to combine your skills between both vector and raster outcomes.
You will combine your image creation skills (from Illustrator and Photoshop) into creative compositions, editorial spreads and cover art gaining an understanding of output for both print and digital projects.
Admissions requirements
The main entry requirement for this course is that applicants must have basic computer skills. It is also recommended that students have access to the software outside of class time. Applicants aged under 23 must have successfully completed the Leaving Certificate/a comparable secondary school examination, or hold another qualification at Level 5 or higher on the National Framework for Qualifications (NFQ).
Mature applicants are welcome and highly valued at the Institute and can be admitted based on prior learning and work experience. We have a robust Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy in place to support mature learners. Language Requirements
We welcome international students to our courses. If English is not your first language, evidence of proficiency is required. This can be provided through a recognised English test result or qualified by experience e.g. where an individual has been working in an English speaking environment for 12 months +.
Certification
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the QQI-accredited Certificate in Digital Applications. This minor award/microcredential carries 5 ECTS credits and is a Level 6 qualification on Ireland’s National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). QQI is Ireland’s official state higher education awarding body.
Please note that a valid PPS (Personal Public Service) number is required by QQI for certification. Without a valid PPS number, certificates may not be issued.

Practical Matters
Once you have registered for a course, additional information will be provided to you in our ‘Enrolled Student Information Packs’. This pack includes reading lists, materials lists and any other course specific information or equipment that may be required.
For courses taking place online, please make sure you have access to a computer or laptop, Wi-Fi and that you can access Microsoft Teams. It is imperative that Adobe software is installed before the beginning of class. This requires you to setup an account and send details of student status to the software provider. All details are supplied after successful admission.
