Course Description

This comprehensive 8-week online course, from leading stylist Laura Jordan of StyleSavvy.ie, delivers the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career as a stylist in a commercial or editorial setting. The programme consists of a series of lectures by Laura and industry guest speakers.

Course Content

The course is ideal if you wish to develop your fashion knowledge and expertise. Whether your interest lies in red carpet, media, commercial or editorial styling, this is the course to progress your expertise to a professional standard.

Assessment involves the presentation of mood boards, wardrobe sourcing and itemising, and completed shoot images. These will incorporate the key skills of basic fashion photography, concept communication, styling, and hair and make-up.

Course Content
Colour Theory and Shape Analysis

You will learn about the colours and shapes that work and why they do, learning how to choose garments that flatter and enhance.

Understanding Trends

Knowing what’s coming next; the top trends for colours and shapes and how they are forecast are so important to a stylist. You will discover how to predict trends from our professional team.

 

Capturing Images

You will learn how to work with a photographer on set and how to take the best photos of your work.

 

Hair and Make-Up

You will learn how to work with a makeup artist on set and learning how creative decisions are made.

 

Playing the PR Game

Understanding the role of blogging and social media in the Fashion Industry.

 

Luxury Goods Marketing

You will uncover the rise of luxury; the opportunities and challenges it offers to fashion marketers now.

 

Where to Go From Here & Assignment

Industry Focus – future planning, ones to watch and establishing goals and targets.

You will complete an Assignment Presentation – self-styled fashion shoot, as set and explained during week 4 of the course.

Admissions requirements  

Applicants aged under 23 must have successfully completed the Leaving Cert / comparable secondary school examination, or hold another qualification at Level 5 or higher on the National Framework for Qualifications (NFQ).   Matureapplicants are welcome and highly valued at our Institute.

Language Requirements 

We welcome international students to our courses. If English is not your first language, evidence of proficiency is required. This can be provided through a recognised English test result or qualified by experience e.g. where an individual has been working in an English speaking environment for 12 months +.

Certification 

Upon successful completion, students will be awarded a Dublin Design Institute (DDI) Certificate in Fashion Styling: Commercial, Media and Editorial.

We encourage our students to look at our short courses as a pathway to other options and courses as well as nationally accredited and internationally recognised degree programmes in Graphic and Interior Design.
