Course Description

This comprehensive 10-week course has been developed by experienced fashion industry professionals to help you develop the expertise needed to work in a Buying office. The aim is to give you an insight into the commercially focused  role of  a fashion buyer, from trend analysis through to range building for an established brand.   

During the course you will be introduced to subjects such as trend forecasting, customer profiling, contemporary and historical research, brand DNA, range planning, presenting and lots more, ensuring that you are familiar with industry-standard procedures and professional terminology.

Course Content
Trend Analysis and Fashion Trend Board

Utilising the industry-standard  trend forecasting platform you will learn how to research and analyse micro and macro trends and present your findings by creating a portfolio standard fashion trend report and trend board.  

Customer Profiling

Learn how to select, research, and empathise with your customer to create a customer profile based on a particular brand.

History of Fashion

Fashion is a circle, learn about the history of fashion the social and cultural influences that impact fashion trends.  

The Role of the Buyer

 Learn the key responsibilities, requirements and qualities associated with the role of a fashion buyer.   

Buying Reports

Learn about the key reports used in buying. Analyse a fashion brand, understand the importance of brand identity and how to research and evaluate the brands DNA,  and  create a shop report.

Range building

Learn the techniques and processes used to build and visually present a fashion range on excel.  Cover the basics of buying budgets and sales forecasting.  

Admissions Requirements   

Applicants aged under 23 must have successfully completed the Leaving Cert / comparable secondary school examination, or hold another qualification at Level 5 or higher on the National Framework for Qualifications (NFQ).

Language Requirements   

We welcome international students to our courses. If English is not your first language, evidence of proficiency is required. This can be provided through a recognised English test result or qualified by experience e.g. where an individual has been working in an English speaking environment for 12 months +.

Certification Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Dublin Design Institute Associate Certificate in Fashion Buying.  

Progression Options  

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to apply to continue your studies on our 1-year Higher Certificate in Fashion Buying. Students who progress from a 10- week course to a 1-year Higher Certificate course with us at Dublin Design will benefit from a reduced fee for the follow-on course. This 10-week course is an introduction in to  Fashion Buying, providing you with solid insights and content, enabling you to understand and develop the necessary skills   associated with working a buying office.
