This popular course will introduce you to the core principals of Fashion Design. Through lectures and practical workshops you will gain an insight into fashion design methodology, trend analysis, as well as developing your own fashion design ideas.

This course is ideal if you have an interest in the area of fashion design, are keen to learn new skills and develop your understanding of the fashion design process.

Learn how to use a variety of materials, media, and techniques to create your own vivid fashion design illustrations.


Learn and explore sewing techniques including straight seam, corner seam, curved seam, gathering etc.

Admissions requirements  

Applicants aged under 23 must have successfully completed the Leaving Cert / comparable secondary school examination, or hold another qualification at Level 5 or higher on the National Framework for Qualifications (NFQ).

Language Requirements 

We welcome international students to our courses. If English is not your first language, evidence of proficiency is required. This can be provided through a recognised English test result or qualified by experience e.g. where an individual has been working in an English speaking environment for 12 months +.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Dublin Design Institute (DDI) Associate Certificate in Fashion Design, which is equivalent to level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). 

Progression Options 

This course has been structured to allow students advance their studies with DDI.  Upon successful completion of this course, students may progress into Term 2 of our 1-year Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Fashion Design.  

Students who progress from a 10- week course to a 1-year Higher Certificate course with us at Dublin Design will benefit from a reduced fee for the follow-on course. For more information about fees and payments, please contact our Student Services.

Career Opportunities  

This 10-week course is a first step into the profession of Fashion Design, providing you with a solid overview of the core principles from design methodology and concept development to market and trend analysis. The course enables you to develop creative and on the job skills while learning and exploring the Fashion Design discipline.  

Many of our graduates on this course, progress in to further study options with us and often to the 1-year Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Fashion Design, further increasing employment prospects.
