1 Year BTEC Higher National Certificate in Fashion Buying
This internationally recognised 1 year course will give you the creative and commercial skill-set required to succeed in today’s competitive buying environment. The course will allow you to combine creative flair with essential buying skills so that you will be well placed to work within the fashion buying office in a range of organisations including high street chains and owner/manager boutiques.

Gain an understanding of your strength’s weaknesses and opportunities needed to enter the fashion industry. Learn the key responsibilities, requirements and qualities associated with the role of a fashion buying office. Investigate a role you would like to apply for and tailer a CV and final portfolio to secure the role.
Fashion is a circle, learn about the history of fashion the social and cultural influences that impact fashion trends. Utilising the industry-standard WGSN trend forecasting platform you will learn how to research and analyse micro and macro trends and present your findings by creating a portfolio standard fashion trend report and trend board.
Learn about the key reports used in buying. Analyse a fashion brand, understand the importance of brand identity and how to research and evaluate the brands DNA, and investigation the brand online and in store to create a shop report. Learn the techniques and processes used to build and visually present a fashion range on excel. Get an insight into the WSSI and its importance in the work of fashion buyers. Cover the basics of buying budgets and sales forecasting.
Range Planning understand the importance of category analysis, range planning and budget planning. Learning how to create your own excel range plan.
The Buying Calendar: Understand the importance of buying the right product at the right time, and learn how to review and analyse the previous season’s performance and plan for the next season. Learn how to develop and source a product / garment, including key negotiation skills. Understand the critical path, and the supply chain. Learn how to perfect your workflow and time management when working as a buyer, and gain an understanding of building a range using excel and the buying cycle.
Explore fabrics and garment construction. Learn the process of developing product for a range using textile design for your own category.
Learn how to represent your category by creating a visual range plan and drawing illustrator flats.
Applicants aged under 23 must have successfully completed the Leaving Cert / comparable secondary school examination, or hold another qualification at Level 5 or higher on the National Framework for Qualifications (NFQ).

We welcome international students to our courses. If English is not your first language, evidence of proficiency is required. This can be provided through an IELTS or TOEFL language test: Level 5.5 in the IELTS Test or a score of 70 on the TOEFL ibT test.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Fashion Buying, which is equivalent to a Level 6 qualification on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
